Food Bag Foundation

‘Don’t waste create educate’

The initial up-cycling design concept was created around 4 years ago by En Shalla, our sister fashion label.

The food bags have been used to carry industrial quantities of rice , couscous , flour and other grains yet rather than ending in a land fill, FBF are giving them a new exciting lease of life.

They come in a 10, 25 or 50 kilo size. Each bag is hand embroidered, weaving different materials through the plastic grid like construction of the sac. We turn them inside out which firstly gives us a blanc canvas to create on, it also keeps the original artwork on the inside of the bag visible so the end client understands their purchase and where it came from.

After working in Morocco for over 25 years, Maryam & Daren Bonar have started this project to help educate women and children in and around Marrakech. Every time a bag is sold we will give 10% to our Food bag foundation.

We have many ideas about how to use this money yet one of the first initial plans is to start teaching women and children basic reading and counting skills. We have helped support many women financially during this time and feel it is time to start giving back something else. The idea is to send teachers to villages on branded scooters where we will hold FBF lessons. A lot of the women we work with are not allowed to leave their homes and with this project we will take the knowledge to them.

As well as reading and counting we will also provide many basic social skills we all take for granted, like crossing the road safely, disposing of rubbish in the correct place, being nice to animals…

With a little help we can give these women some tools to help them gain independence and power in today’s world.

‘Knowledge is key’

Each season we will release a collection as well as capsule editions throughout the year. These will be sold to stores around the world and directly to the public through our website www.enshallah.co.uk.

We would also like to invite fellow artists to design Food bags and to help promote the foundation by selling it to their audience. We hope to have a guest food bag every month from a creative person from around the world.

This will help our family grow as we spread a likewise message though fashion , arts , recycling and education.
